A BOOK OF LITERARY CLASSICS PENNED AGAIN IN VERSE
by Elizabeth Faris
PALIMPSEST is the traditional name for a tablet or parchment showing traces of old inscription scraped off to make way for new. Today, amid a tempest of technology where scroll has been usurped by screen, 'palimpsest' has taken on a more generic connotation. Yet those timeless traces live on.
In celebration of this priceless legacy, I have created 'PALIMPSEST: A Book of Literary Classics Penned Again in Verse.' Each of the original poems it contains is based on, or inspired by, a plot, style, theme, or character, either from the best-loved work of a past master, or from history itself. It's designed to be read silently or aloud, for education or pure entertainment. It would make a colourful resource for home school study, a creative supplement for classroom instruction, a lively share with family young and old, or a satisfying read curled up solo by the fire. A truly unique gift for the holiday season!
